Research

Basic research and patient care are intimately connected with each other at our Department. This is ultimately of advantage for our patients, who will be able to benefit from new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches early in development. For instance, dendritic cell-based vaccination strategies against melanoma were developed and applied. Innsbruck Dermatology's researchers have played a leading role in the development of methods for the isolation and propagation of these cells over the past three decades.

Additionally, emphasis is laid on research into the barrier function of the skin, infectious diseases of the skin, HIV infection, the cutaneous immune system, and dermato-histopathology.
